Fun The Mental: Revised And Completed (Finally)

Howdy Myst,

As many of you know, the Fun The Mental post was accidentally published when only partially completed. For the past few weeks I have had the last section out for tweaking and adjustments…..kind of a “knife at my throat” editing, it probably would not have taken its current form without my compulsion by design need to twist things around while it hung to dry. Go on back to the original post to see the final version (you are not getting a link – it is the post just before this one :)). It may never feel finished for me, but this seems where it should be…..more or less.

I do a lot of things the hard way…..my therapist isn’t happy about it. Apologies to any of you who happened to look in on the rougher sections these past few weeks. If anyone would like to hear a podcast where I talk with Michelle from Steadily Skipping Stones go here:

http://peopleialmostknow.com/mark-bradley-completely-un-legitimate-motorcycle-dude/

We talk about how RidicuRyder began, my Bipolar disease and coming to a place in life where reshaping certain realities becomes necessary.

A lot of RidicuRyder ventures beyond sanity…..it is disturbing in spots, but I look at it this way……any of you entering a building with a claustrophobic friend would understand that they would be avoiding the elevator and taking the stairs to the floor you were headed for. Perhaps you decide to get a little exercise and take the stairs with them or you might feel lazy and just hop the elevator. Your destination is agreed upon, it’s just that at least one of you is getting there in an alternate fashion.

I generally take the elevator and I don’t mind being squeezed into tight spots at times, but I do feel confined by our species in its present form. I understand there are all sorts of rational reasons I shouldn’t be…….but I am. So I am out at the edge of various floor plans seeking steps elsewhere, sorry if it isn’t pretty…..I know it can be hard to watch. I am the guy teetering out on the periphery…..what can I say?

Several friends and family accept my goof (at least they tell me they do). Thanks to everyone for understanding and especially the few that helped with this post…..you know who you are 🙂

Love,
Mark

Cloaked & Variable Character(s) who only make sense if read from the beginning - start at the Ride Along Reader's Guide (Nov 2012) then pick up Contraption Attachment Disorder from July 2012. RidicuRyder is a fictional adventure layered over an actual trip. Our Adventurers have strange takes on things like Lisps, Motorcycles, Montreal Steak Spice, Mental Health and The End of the World (Evolving our species just sorta happens by accident). New for 2013 - opinion pieces in between trip stories.

  1. It was a good podcast! I’ve listened several times and it always makes me smile and laugh. I love that you think differently but don’t blame me for seeing the world in my own way. You don’t take yourself so seriously that you alienate other points of view, other people. Thanks for everything!

    • Boots,

I have had to work on the “Non – Alienation for other’s points of view” stuff……accepting myself as an Alien has helped with much of this, but at times progress stalls a bit. I’m pleased you understand the challenges Megalomaniacs face and are broad minded enough to tolerate my occasional intolerances, here’s hoping gentle and warm people like you can continue to smooth my rough edges.

  2. Mark,
From what I see around me (I admit to having blinders on most of the time), NOBODY takes the easy way. Some people may make it look easy, or have a certain grace about it, but it’s not MEANT to be easy. What fun would it be if it were?
    NO

    P.S. I like the revisions.

    • NO,

Yes, this grace business is handy in everyday living, but unfortunately our Megalomaniac hasn’t quite evolved to where it is tucked into the tool belt……obviously Meg is a step in the right direction.

You’re right about easy not being all that much fun.

Hah! I disagree wholeheartedly. YOU may not see it, but Grace follows you around like a cloud of dirt follows Pigpen. The fact that you are still walking, writing, and breathing is a testament to that.
If I were committed to ‘easy’, you and I wouldn’t be friends. You are NOT easy but you are definitely fun.

        NO

  3. You’re so funny – “my therapist isn’t happy about it” 🙂
    Ah, you make me laugh.

I’m convinced 99.9% of comedians are bipolar. I’ve been INSANELY happy (but what is happy?) and so depressed I have genuinely, genuinely attempted death by my own hand. In school, I wagged if I didn’t feel I could “face the people” that day – or in other words, maintain the facade.

I’m interested in your link. Will now go there.

  4. Listening now – love your voice!! You sound – ah, you just said 48. I was thinking 36-40.

    Enjoying so far! 🙂

  5. At this point, still listening to the podcast and feeling very much for you ( xx ! ) :)….

I say open a paypal account and make it FUND the Mentalist!!

    Yes? ! 🙂

  6. CATHARSIS – YES!

  7. Wow – 20 year marriage. I married at 19, left him at 26. That’s only 7 years. You talking 20.

    WOW.

  8. I like how you openly admit you haven’t read a lot of her earlier stuff etc. Lots of people would have lied & flaked it right there.

    Like that, Mark.

    • Noeleen,

Thanks for all your wonderful comments….. I haven’t seen statistics on comedians and Bipolar disease, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the diagnosis is common.

WordPress is an interesting platform to share our stories and perspectives with each other…..I have enjoyed many of yours and Daniels. Knowing you are on the other side of the world yet sensing you right next door is pretty cool.

Michelle is a beautiful lady and by her own admission “seeking” we had a great afternoon together and when I get around to it I really want to go back and explore her archives.

      Love,
      Mark
